Authorities continue to investigate Fourth of July stabbings

Buchanan county sheriffThe Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating after two men were stabbed at a large Fourth of July party.

Monday around 2:45 a.m. authorities responded to the area of 6400 block of Possum Holler Road near Agency in reference to a large fight with weapons.

“Prior to arrival deputies were advised that two males were being transported with stab wounds,” Col. Bill Puett said.

A 20-year-old from St. Joseph was taken to Mosaic Life Care with what was described as serious but non-life threatening stab wounds and a 19-year-old from Faucett was also transported with non-life threatening wounds.  Puett said the attack was believed to have been targeted.

He said the investigation could be a lengthy process due to the number of people believed to be involved in the fight which at one point was described as around 50 people. Around 150 to 200 people were believed to be in attendance at the party.

“We’ve heard ages including everything from kids from all four local high schools, Missouri Western age students, and people in their 20s,” Puett said. “Because of the shear magnitude of the people there, we’re still trying to sort it all out and identify people.”

He said individuals in attendance came from all over including, Faucett, St. Joseph, Mound City, Iowa, Oregon and other locations.

“Investigators are still trying to sort through all the information,” Puett said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
