Charges have been filed against five people in connection with Sunday’s double homicide investigation on Safari Dr.
Omar Martinez-Velez, 34, Luis Omar Robles-Vargas, 31, Alexi Martinez-Andino, 19, Luz A. Figueroa-Castillo, 29, and Raymond Jimenez Bencebi, Jr., 26 have each been charged with a felony for second-degree murder. The charges are in connection with the shooting deaths of Kevilee Villegas-Melendez, 22 and Raymond Gonzalez Ortiz, 25 who were found dead Sunday morning in the 1900 block of Safari Dr. The felony charge carries a punishment range of 10-30 years or life imprisonment.
According to court documents all five of the defendants were in the area of Lion Rd. and Safari Dr. and had a loaded firearm at the time multiple rounds were fired from several weapons striking and causing the death of Villegas-Melendez and Ortiz. Each defendant is accused of firing numerous rounds at the victims striking both of them.
Also as we previously reported, Monday morning police shut down roads in the area of Delaware and Ashland avenue for a shooting investigation after shots were found to have been fired at a home and into a vehicle in the area of Delaware. The shots were believed to have been fired sometime Sunday. Police have said they are currently investigating that case in connection with the Safari shooting investigation.
Bond has been denied for each of the defendants, arraignment dates are unknown at this time.
