A Clarinda man is dead after crashing into a semi Monday near Maryville.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, shortly after noon, 52-year-old Todd M. Pedersen of Clarinda, Iowa, was driving south on US 71, one mile north of Maryville, when his vehicle crossed the center line into the path of a vehicle headed north on 71. The second vehicle, a semi, driven by 55-year-old Donald L. Root of Pennsylvania struck Pedersen’s vehicle and both vehicles skidded off the road in opposite directions.

Pedersen was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:10. No injuries were reported for Root.
