Breastfeeding moms are taking part in a latch-in in St. Joseph as part of World Breastfeeding Week.

St. Joe Latch MO is being held at 10 a.m. today, (Saturday) in the East Hills Shopping Center in the Sunporch Cafe.

The event is part of a grand finale of week-long events the City of St. Joseph Health Department WIC program has hosted as part of World Breastfeeding Week.

Following the “St. Joe Latch MO,” the health department said it plans to present East Hills Shopping Center a Gold Level Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite Award for the addition of a breastfeeding lounge which will be available to employees and shoppers.

“We are proud to be able to support nursing mothers in our community, and what better timing to open the lounge than during World Breastfeeding Week,” said Regan Lyons, Marketing Manager at East Hills Shopping Center. “The new breastfeeding lounge will offer convenience and privacy to mothers while they are shopping.”

East Hills Shopping Center was recently named a Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite at the Gold level by the Department of Health and Senior Services. To become a Gold Level Breastfeeding Friendly Worksite, East Hills created an employee breastfeeding policy, provides a nursing room for employees and a breast pump for employees, among other qualifications.
