ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – A project at U.S. Route 169 (Belt Highway) and Route YY (Mitchell Avenue) in St. Joseph has run into some unanticipated complications and Mitchell Avenue will remain closed through next Thursday, Aug. 18. Contractors from Mega Industries Corporation, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, planned to reopen Mitchell Avenue, but for motorists’ safety will leave Mitchell Avenue closed through next Thursday.

All lanes of the Belt Highway will reopen for the weekend, but access to Mitchell is still closed. Monday, Aug. 15, at approximately 6 a.m., crews will again close two lanes of the Belt Highway and move traffic head-to-head through Thursday, Aug. 18, at approximately 7 p.m. At that time, access to Mitchell Avenue will also be restored.

During the closures, all business entrances on Mitchell Avenue will be accessible. The signals for all traffic at the intersection will also be turned off during the work. As part of the project, the contractor is installing flashing yellow arrow signals at the intersection.

All work is weather permitting.
