St. Joseph School District Director of Communications Joey Austin announced her resignation Wednesday but said she plans to stay involved in the community.
Austin has not officially announced her plans after she leaves her position but she said she’ll be involved in another local public relations opportunity.
“I was presented with a professional opportunity and the timing was right,” Austin said. “I still plan to be involved with the district. I’m a product of the district, my kids are in the district and I want to make sure our district continues to develop and grow and I look forward to volunteering in that capacity now.”
Austin was hired to the position of Director of Communications in October of 2013.
“It certainly was a challenging time with the St. Joseph School District, but I believe we are in the process of looking ahead to a very bright future,” Austin said. “It’s certainly bittersweet because I’ve had many wonderful relationships with our students, with our staff members and I look forward to being an active part of the district for many years to come.”
Austin said while her position as Director of Communications over the past few years was challenging, it was also rewarding.
“We had a lot of tough days, but what I tried to do was concentrate on our students and staff members and the amazing things they do in the classroom each day,” Austin said. “Our focus was to remind the community that the learning environment continued and we wanted our students and staff members highlighted, so it was a very rewarding job.”
Austin’s last day is September 30th. The job for Director of Communications is posted on the district’s website.
