Tiger Town!

COLUMBIA, MO. — Boosters and business leaders hope to start a new tradition in Columbia, now that Mizzou is joining the SEC this fall.

Plans are underway for activities in an area known as “Tiger Town.”

Organizers have not decided on an exact location of their events for Mizzou home football games. They do know Tiger Town will be near the Mizzou Campus and Downtown Columbia.

Columbia business leaders say their idea will attract Mizzou fans as well as the new fans of visiting SEC football teams.

Tiger Town Co-Organizer Carrie Gartner said, “What we do know is that we want to really take the current atmosphere that we have on football weekends and really make it better. That may involve blocking streets. It may not. It may involve parades or events or music. It may not. Clearly, we are in the early stages of planning.”

Organizers said Tiger Town could be similar to events at the University of Oklahoma where several streets are blocked off on game days to allow large outdoor events and festivities.
