Suspect charged with shattering glass front door at Family Dollar to steal candy

A 27-year-old man from Agency, Missouri appeared in court Tuesday, accused of breaking out the glass front door of a Family Dollar store to steal candy. Jacob Maus is charged with 2nd degree burglary, a Class-C felony.

In court documents, a St. Joseph Police detective asserts that during the early morning hours of October 11, the defendant broke out the front glass door and stole an unknown amount of candy from the business (Family Dollar, 809 N. 22nd).

During a first appearance on Tuesday, Buchanan County Associate Judge Rebecca Spencer scheduled a preliminary hearing Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m. Maus has applied for a public defender. He remains in custody, unable to post $10,000 bail. One condition of bail is that he have no contact with any Family Dollar store.
