Bishop LeBlond High School has named a name softball coach.

School Athletic Director Michael Evans announced Thursday that Joey Lauts will be the school’s softball coach for the fall 2017 season.

Lauts, an 8th grade teacher at St. James School, played two years of softball at Highland Community College prior to transferring to Lincoln University.

While doing her student teaching she was an assistant coach at Fatima High School in Westphalia, Mo. After graduating from Lincoln University, she was an assistant coach at Highland Community College for one season. She currently plays semi-pro fast pitch softball for the St. Louis Saints during the summer.

Evans said he is excited to have Lauts join the Bishop LeBlond athletic family.

“She has had success playing at both the junior college and Division 2 level, but her background in coaching at one of the premier junior colleges in the country is remarkable,” he said.

Evans said he believes Lauts can revive the Bishop LeBlond softball program after a one-year hiatus due to lack of
interest.

“I look forward to seeing her regenerate the excitement for the city’s only state championship (2013) program,” he said.

Lauts said it has always been a dream of hers to coach softball and that she looks forward to being an influence on and off the field.

“I am hoping to teach the girls the skills not only to compete at the highest level possible in the sport, but also to instill life skills that will help them be the best they can in life after Bishop LeBlond,” Lauts said.
