A house exploded in southwestern Topeka late Monday morning, sending one woman to the hospital and rattling houses throughout the neighborhood. Several roads near the 1900 block of S. W. Navajo were closed as fire crews continue to monitor the site.
A police spokeswoman says the woman who lived in the house was “alert, conscious and aware” when emergency responders arrived. She was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital, but the extent of her injuries are not yet known.
Police say a sprinkler system was being installed nearby and a gas line was struck, causing the explosion.
