Missouri public K-12 schools appear set to get roughly $48 million more in basic aid next fiscal year. Senators voted 19-14 Tuesday in favor of bumping up funding to meet targets called for under state law.
House members also passed a proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning in July that would meet funding goals. That means the money is likely locked into the proposed budget.
A bipartisan coalition of 19 Democratic and Republican Senators came together to pass the Senate budget amendment to fully fund the current Missouri School Finance Formula. Observers say that Tuesday’s Senate vote and similar action previously taken in the Missouri House, public schools in the Show-Me State will see record funding in the upcoming fiscal year.
The vote Tuesday occurred on an amendment to House Bill 2, the appropriations bill for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
