Drivers urged to avoid location in Buchanan County due to downed line

power-outagePeople are being asked to avoid the area of SE State Highway A and McQueen Road due to an electric pole down with wires.

That’s according to an advisory issued by the St. Joseph Police Department shortly before 1 p.m. According to the Kansas City Power and Light Power Outage Map, around 400 people were without power in that area around that time. The outage was reported at 11:52 a.m. Crews from KCP&L are on scene.

Cpl. Sarah Hardin with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office said the outage was caused by a pole that snapped in the wind and was not caused by a crash.  The location of the downed lines is on A Highway between 32nd and McQueen roads.  She said McQueen road is closed in the area for lines hanging too low.
