Velma M. Adams, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Thursday, June
1, 2017 at a local health care facility.
She was born March 3, 1932 to Fred and Zelma Buckingham in
Savannah, Missouri.
Velma worked at Meade Products for several years before retiring.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, James B. Adams;
parents, a sister and a brother.
Survivors include son; Roger Adams (Karen), St. Joseph, Missouri;
daughter, Rita Cogdill (Alva), Jameson, Missouri; 4 sisters; 2
grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Mildred G. Ward
1926-2017
ROSSVILLE – Mildred G. Ward, 90, formerly of Wichita, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Rossville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born September 13, 1926 the daughter of Louis and Katherine Pierson Kishko.
Mildred worked as an administrative assistant for the State of Kansas Welfare Department for many years.
She married Steve Ward, Jr. on September 4, 1959 in Falls City, Nebraska. They were divorced.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her step-father, two brothers, Wendell Kishko and Wayne Kishko, and a half-brother, Philip Niles.
Survivors include ten nieces and nephews and one great niece, Hope Niles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 5th at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church on the Potawatomi Reservation at Mayetta. Burial will follow in the Shipshee Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 9:30 until 10:30 Monday at Sr. Therese Klepac Memorial Hall at the church.
Michael D “Mike” Bodenhausen
1953 – 2017
Michael D. “Mike” Bodenhausen, 64, of Muscotah, KS, died on Monday, May 29th, 2017 as the result of an ATV accident on the family farm.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Al Schirmacher officiating. Burial will follow in the Muscotah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 -8:30 pm on Thursday, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison KS. Mike was born on March 4, 1953 in Horton, KS the son of Dale R. and Mary (Freeland) Bodenhausen. He graduated from Atchison County Community High School in 1971 and from Kansas State University with a degree in Dairy Science in 1974. Mike had worked as a fieldman for the Holstein Association of America, and then as a classifier from 1975-1981. He was a farmer and dairyman in the Muscotah area and had taught dairy judging at K-State 2005-2006. Mr. Bodenhausen served as the 2nd District Atchison County Commissioner from 2012 – 2015. He was an active member of the Muscotah United Church where he had served as treasurer and as chairman of the board. He was a past president and member of the USD #377 School Board from 1987-1995. Mike also served as a director for the Kansas Dairy Association, and was named the Kansas State Dairy Leader of the Year in 2014. He was a past president of the Kansas Holstein Association, 1992-1993. Mr. Bodenhausen was presently working again as a classifier for the Holstein Association of America.
He was married to Linda Hines on Dec. 6, 1981 in Lancaster, KS. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son, Ryan (Kayla) Bodenhausen, Muscotah, KS., a daughter, Jeni (Bob) Hespe, Olathe, KS, his mother, Mary Bodenhausen, Muscotah, KS, two brothers, Steven Bodenhausen, Horton, KS and Mark Bodenhausen, Muscotah, KS, two grandchildren, Brinley Bodenhausen, and Thomas “Tommy” Hespe. His father preceded him in death.
JoAnn Lawrence
1931-2017
JoAnn Lawrence 86, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at a Saint Joseph, MO health care center. She was born February 1, 1931 in Rushville, MO, daughter of Ada and Charles Moberly. She graduated from Rushville high school in 1949 where she was an exceptional softball and volleyball player. She married Edward Lawrence on February 10, 1951 in Rushville, MO. JoAnn worked at Dillards & Penny’s as a Sales Clerk for many years. She enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. JoAnn loved cooking for her family and friends, and was a member of Rushville Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and brother in law, Patricia and Joe Thomas, and her father and mother in law, Edward & Christine Lawrence. Survivors include, husband, Edward Lawrence, Jr. of the home, sons, Chuck Lawrence of Tucson, AZ, and Kirk (Lorna) Lawrence of St. Louis, MO, a daughter, Sandra Flocks of Tuscon, AZ, 6, grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Rick Kerns
1953-2017
Rick Kerns, 63, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with gallbladder cancer on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at his home.
He was born August 29, 1953 in King City, Missouri, where he graduated from Union Star High School and later earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Wood Technology and Industrial Education.
He married Christine Sutton on May 15, 1982.
Mr. Kerns owned and operated Rick Kerns Millwork and Woodworking.
Rick was a member of Orchid Christian Church, Midwest Tool Collectors, Early American Industries Association, St. Joseph Woodworkers’ Guild and Greater Kansas City Pontiac Association.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eldon Francis Kerns; and brother-in-law, Ray Thompson.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Christine, of the home; mother, Viola Kerns, Union Star, Missouri; brother, Bob Kerns (Wendy), Hollister, Missouri; sister, Elizabeth Burks (Marvin), Union Star, Missouri; nephews, Travis Erisman (Tina) and Joshua Kerns (Tara); nieces, Tal Kroll (Robby), Melanie Davis and Megan Burks; sister-in-law, Sheila Thompson; and numerous great nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

David “Tub” Eugene Hunt 70, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at his home. He was born November 13, 1946 in St. Joseph, MO. He married Sharon Bennett on February 2, 1965, and they have celebrated 52 year together. He retired from Johnson Controls after 26 years of service. He loved to mushroom hunt, go fishing, and family get togethers. David was preceded in death by his mother, Isabelle Boyles, and his in-laws, John and Irene Bennett, and a great grandchild, Piper Keith. Survivors include, wife, Sharon Hunt of the home, three daughters, Stacy Hunt, Carey (Marvin) Cox, and Andrea (Deron) Jacobs all of St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Danielle Keith, Aaron (Andrea) Keith, Kayla Huffman, Erica Hignight, Jason Jacobs, and Dakota Cox, great grandchildren: Raven Shaw, Olivia Keith, Beau Deatherage, Zoey Keith, Brooke Taylor, Logan Keith, and Dawson Hignight, brother, Richard (Janet) Hunt of Olathe, KS.

Charmaine Minnie Louise Roberts 100, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2017 in a Saint Joseph, MO health care center. She was born April 28, 1917 in St. Joseph, MO, daughter of the late Rose and Leo Baldwin. She was a homemaker who loved to watch old movies and entertaining at Lake Contrary. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Charmaine was preceded in death by husband, H.R. “Tony” Roberts, her parents, son, Roland A. Roberts, and a sister, Jacqueline Carter. Survivors include, daughter in law, Margaret Roberts of St. Joseph, MO., granddaughters, Gina Roberts and Renee (Larry) Barber, 4 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and 3 nephews. Richard “Dick” Dale Belcher 70, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at Mosaic Life Care Hospital. He was born May 31, 1946 in St. Joseph, MO, son of the late Mamie and Charles “Babe” Belcher. He graduated from Benton High School and Barber College. He married Karen Fox on Las Vegas, NV. He was a barber and self employed bookkeeper and tax preparer. He enjoyed bowling, ping pong and playing pool, and joking with family and friends. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Billie R. Belcher. Survivors include, wife, Karen Rose Belcher of the home, daughter, Dawn Marie (Kenny) Yurkovich, Kansas City, MO, sons, Travis Len (Kelli) Garton, St. Joseph, MO, and Richard Skylar (Yolanda ) Belcher, St. Joseph, MO, grandchildren, Kenisha, Mitchell and Ryan Yurkovich, Travis Len Garton Jr., Taylor (Trevor) Peters, Yuritzy, Skylayne Belcher, and great grandchild due in December, brothers, Robert Belcher, Cameron, MO, and Don (Dorothy) Belcher, St. Joseph, MO, sister, Betty (Harold) Caldwell of St. Joseph, MO, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Violet Laquita (Cotter) Deatherage Uthe
1935-2017
Violet Laquita (Cotter) Deatherage Uthe, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at Mosaic Life Care.
She was born July 7, 1935 to Marvin C. and Violet P (Gust) Cotter in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Laquita graduated from Benton High School where she was a member of T-Cinco Club. She then attended Saint Joseph Junior College where she was a cheerleader.
She married Billy Deatherage, Sr. and to that union four children were born, they later divorced. She married Bobby Uthe on August 15, 1976 and moved to Cameron, Missouri.
She was employed at the Midland Empire Girl Scout Council, as a Secretary for Wire Rope Corporation, Cameron Prison and as the Activities Director for Beehive.
Mrs. Uthe enjoyed being an active volunteer in the community. She was a Director of Camp for Needy Girls and started Meals on Wheels in St. Joseph.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi International and Sweet Adelines with her daughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Uthe; step sons, Keith and Kevin Uthe; and stepfather, Lawrence Johns.
Survivors include her daughters, Rhonda Lewis and Regina Fujan (Byron); sons, Billy Deatherage II (Paula), and Bart Deatherage; nine grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; sister, Bonnie Jennings; brother, Ronald Cotter (Frances); and step mother, Frances L. Cotter.

Marilyn married Dwight Morrow April 16, 1955, he survives of the home.
She was a member of the Pearl Chapter #529 of Eastern Star and Moila Wreckettes.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard and grandson, Kyle.
