St. Joseph builds early lead and knocks off Clarinda 5-2

The St. Joseph Mustangs returned home Wednesday night and picked up their second consecutive win as they were able to defeat Clarinda 5-2 inside Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s collegaite summer baseball is now 6-1 this season and 3-1 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped on the A’s early with two runs in the first inning and they added single runs in the second and third to build a 4-0 lead.

Josh Williams led St. Joseph’s 11-hit attack with two solo home runs. Brody Santilli, Brady Anderson, Louis Mele and Easton Fortuna added two hits each for the Mustangs.

Osvaldo Raya earned the win on the mound as he improves to 2-0 this season. Raya went six innings and allowed just two runs on four hits. Kyle Uhrich worked a scoreless ninth inning for his second save in as many nights.

The Mustangs begin a three-game series at home against the Joplin Outlaws on Thursday. The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
