Excessive heat warning in effect through Saturday

Heat index values will range from 103 to 108 degrees on Wednesday across the region. For Thursday and Friday heat indices will jump to around 105 to 110. Then on Saturday expect one more day of oppressive heat with heat indices around 105 degrees. Overnight lows will generally remain rather high, with minimum temperatures only dropping to around 75 to 80 degrees, which will offer very little relief from the day time heat. Take precautions to avoid overheating over the next several days. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service: 

Today: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9 a.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 105. Southeast wind 7 to 9 mph becoming south southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 76. South wind 6 to 9 mph.

Thursday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 106. South southwest wind 6 to 9 mph.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 77. South wind 6 to 8 mph.

Friday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98. South southwest wind 6 to 11 mph.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 78.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 96.

Saturday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 90.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85.
