A St. Joseph man has been charged after a police chase and standoff Monday afternoon in a midtown neighborhood.
Jeffrey Parham, 36 was charged Tuesday in Buchanan County with felonies of second-degree assault and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
Commander Eric Protzman said Parham was taken into custody after a nearly two-hour long standoff at a home located in the 1500 block of S 11th St. Monday afternoon.
As we previously reported, Luther Smith of St. Joseph said his pickup was stolen from his workplace Friday night. Smith’s stepson spotted the vehicle Monday afternoon at about 2:45 p.m. The stepson followed the vehicle to a repair shop near 18th and Howard. A police pursuit began through town and ended near 11th and Monterey. Authorities blocked off the neighborhood streets and tried to talk the suspect into coming outside.
According to online court documents, Parham is being held without bail due to the court finding him to be a danger to the community.
Parham is due in court Friday for an arraignment.
