Barbara L. Roades
1934-2017


Barbara L. (Serocki) Roades, 82, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017.
She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri to George and Annabel (Geissel) Serocki.
Barbara married Norman “Dusty” Roades in 1969, he preceded her in death in 1982.
She was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church then later joined Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She worked for the State of Missouri as a Deputy Circuit Clerk at the Buchanan County Courthouse, after retirement she volunteered at Hall School, reading to the children and was affectionately known as “Grandma Boo-Boo”.
Barbara enjoyed gambling, playing cards, going with her children on vacations and sharing her love of musicals with her grandchildren. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends were her life and love.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Paula Crump.
Survivors include sons, Scott Rose and Paul Rose (Jennifer); daughter, Jennifer Halter (David); grandchildren, Barbara and Katie Halter, Mary Respress (Marel), Daniel and David Rose, Margaret Weible; great-grandchildren, Josilin Case, Malachi and Michael Respress, Aubrey, Abigail and Olivia Rose; half-sister’s, Margaret Floyd and Sue Ford; and cousins.
Mass Of Christian Burial 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Parish Rosary 6:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. James “Jim” Edward Simerly
1946-2017


James “Jim” Edward Simerly 71, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Mosaic Life Care in Saint Joseph, MO. He was born April 25, 1946 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Maxine and Enos Simerly. He graduated from Christian Brothers in 1965 and Missouri Western State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He served in the Navy for 27 years and is a veteran of the Vietnam War & Gulf War. He was also a Detective for the St. Joseph Police Dept. and worked at Peachtree Door and Western Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center. He was a member VFW Post 6760, and he was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. James was preceded in death by wife, Judith “Judi” A. Simerly, his parents, and a niece, Laura Wells Swartz. Survivors include, son, Jimmy Simerly, sister, Diane (Gary) Wells of St. Joseph, MO, step-son, Ronnie Richardson of Faucett, MO, niece, Angela (Jack) Boatwright of Gower, MO, great nieces, Lydia & Emelia Boatwright, great nephews, Jake & Ethan Boatwright, and nephew-in-law, Andrew Swartz of St. Joseph, MO.
Graveside Funeral service and Interment; 2:30 PM, Tuesday, Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorials are requested to theWounded Warriors or Military Organization of donors choice.

R. Glenn Cox Jr.
1927-2017


R. Glenn Cox Jr. 90, of Saint Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at his home in Saint Joseph, MO. He was born January 29, 1927 in St. Joseph, MO, son of Edna and Rual Cox Sr.. He graduated from Benton in 1945. Glenn served in the Army and was a veteran of the World War II. He was a delivery driver and warehouse manager for 7-Up for 27 years and later a security guard for Wells Fargo. He had a passion for trains, and loved collecting toy trains, and listening to Big Band music. Glenn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was preceded in death by wife, Frances Marie Cox, his second wife, Lois Cox, his parents, and a son, Terry Ray Cox. Survivors include, 2 daughters, Diana (Galen) Streeter and, Linda (Frank) VanVactor of St. Joseph, MO, his son, Lowell “Wayne” (Cindy) Cox, step-son, James “Jim” (Julie) Pierce all of St. Joseph, MO, 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren, brother, David (Joyce) Cox of Lathrop, MO.
Funeral service; 10:00 am, Tuesday, Rupp Funeral Home, with L.B. Newey officiating, The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, Rupp Funeral Home. Interment; Bethel Cemetery, Dekalb, MO with Military Honors under the direction of the United States Army. Memorials are requested to theThree Rivers Hospice.

Jessica Lee Scott (Brown)
1961-2017


Jessica Lee (Brown) Scott, 55, Atchison, KS, passed away, Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, August 14, 2017 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Russ Cooper, officiating. Family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Sunday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 19, 2017 with full military honors in the Sumner Cemetery. The family suggest memorial contributions in honor of Jessica be made to the Sumner Cemetery. Words of condolence and remembrance may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Jessica Lee Brown was born on November 8, 1961 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of William Lealand and Wilma Jean (Dugger) Brown. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Topeka, KS in 1979. Jessica joined the US Navy in October 1981 and retired in January 2004 as a Chief Petty Officer. Jessica was awarded many commendations throughout her military career; including, Navy Commendation Medal (2), Navy Achievement Medal (4), Navy Good Conduct Medal (6), National Defense Medal (2), Overseas service ribbon (3), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2), Navy Battle “E” Ribbon (1), and Meritorious Unit Commendation (2).
Jessica was most proud of serving aboard the USS Harry S. Truman as an Assistant Personnel Officer where she was responsible for the operation and management of the Personnel Office for a crew of 2400, including duties as a Family Care Coordinator, Career Counselor and assisting with the Educational Service Office. Jessica loved her country and served it faithfully for over 22 years in the United States Navy.

Jessica and Jody Scott were married on May 18, 2007 at the First Christian Church in Atchison.

Survivors include her husband of ten years, Jody Scott, of the family home; son, Jeremy Wright and daughter, Anna Wright, both of Topeka; her mother, Wilma Brown of Ft. Valley, Georgia; five grandchildren; three sisters, April Jenkins, Hanover, MD, Marilyn Brown, St. Louis and Lesterie Brown, Pensacola, FL.

Jessica was preceded in death by her father, William Brown; and a brother, Thomas Botter.
