A St. Joseph man is accused of running from police and breaking into a home with a woman and a child inside.

Vincent Ewing, 35 is charged in Buchanan County with a felony of first-degree burglary.

According to court documents, on Friday Ewing allegedly ran when an officer with the St. Joseph Police Department approached him and two others near a vehicle in the 1200 block of N. 11th.

Det. Richard Shelton with the police department, said Ewing was located inside a home in the area after a woman ran outside with her child and said Ewing had entered her kitchen without permission.

“She told officers the man was shaking, out of breath and sweating. She said the man told her, ‘you know me’ and told her, ‘they’re out to get me, they’re going to get me,” Det. Shelton said. “That was when she ran out the back door taking her child due to fear of the man.”

Det. Shelton said authorities were given permission to search the home and chased Ewing up the stairs. Shelton said a Taser was used to force Ewing to comply with police.

Shelton said, another resident was in the residence when Ewing illegally entered the home and at first lied to police due to fear from Ewing who was in the home when police came to the door.

Shelton said Ewing was on parole for burglary and domestic assault at the time of the incident. Ewing is currently being held in the Buchanan County Jail on $10,000 bail. He’s due in court Friday for an arraignment.
