Man accused of breaking into home and defecating on bed appears in court

JOSHUA STEPHEN MOFFATT

Joshua Moffatt appeared by video conference Friday in Buchanan County court on a charge stemming from an incident in which he’s accused of breaking into a duplex and defecating and urinating on items inside.

The 29-year-old St. Joseph man is charged in Buchanan County with a felony of second-degree burglary.

As we reported, court documents accuse Moffatt of breaking into a duplex in the 3600 block of Senecca on Tuesday. Det. Jeff Pearl said Moffatt then forced open an entryway door and entered the adjoining duplex. Pearl said Moffatt defecated on the victims bed and urinated on the carpeting. Police said Moffatt did not know either victim and has never had permission to enter either home.

Online court documents state Moffatt will apply for a public defender.  A counsel status hearing is scheduled for Sept. 1.

Moffatt continues to be held in the Buchanan County Jail on $10,000 bond.
