(UPDATE) Overnight standoff ends in midtown

Terrance Brown

(UPDATE 9:10 a.m.) A man was taken into custody after an almost 12-hour standoff in St. Joseph.

According to Capt. Jeff Wilson with the St. Joseph Police Department, throughout the day Tuesday, the Street Crimes Unit, Detective Bureau and uniformed officers were conducting an investigation and trying to locate 40-year-old Terrance Brown. Wilson said Brown is associated with the St. Joseph and Kansas City, Kansas, areas and had two felony warrants for his arrest. The investigation led officers to obtain a search warrant for a house at 208 South 22nd Street.

“Based on information that he’s known to have a weapon, they utilized the SRT Team,” Wilson said. “They utilized a combination of tactics to try and get him out, anywhere from just negotiating with him to using space deprivation which means CS gas to try and coax him out of the house.”

Brown surrendered peacefully around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Wilson said the investigation leading up to the standoff revolved around some of the recent shootings but no charges have been filed yet. Brown was taken into custody on the two felony warrants.

St. Joseph Police, SRT, the Detective Bureau and the Buchanan County Drug Strike Force were on scene.

Wilson said a 32-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man were also arrested in reference to an investigation hold.
