Eva N. Daise
1925-2017


Eva N. Daise, 91, of St. Joseph, Mo., passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at the Living Community of St. Joseph.

She was born November 28, 1925, in Forest City, Mo., to Charlotte (Prussman) and Charles Schaeffer. She graduated from Forest City High School in 1944 and married Howard Lewis Daise April 30, 1944, in Troy, Kan. Eva worked at H.D. Lee and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who enjoyed bowling, traveling, boating, gardening, babysitting, canning and sewing. Eva was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings, Doris (Frank) Caton, Carolyn “Sis” Baxter, Herbert “Bud” Schaeffer and Melvin (Gerta) Schaeffer. Survivors include a sister, Colleen (Frank) Cooperider, Kansas City, Mo., two sons, Leland “Buster” (Sue Long) Daise of St. Joseph and Galen “Butch” (Debbie) Daise of St. Joseph, step-grandson, Brian (Stacy) Adkins of St. Joseph, grandson, Jeff (Kris) Daise of Cosby, Mo., granddaughter, Susan Daise-Bartlett of Easton, Mo., and Jeff and Susan’s mother, Maree Daise, St. Joseph, granddaughter, Tina Gasper of Agency, Mo., grandson, Travis Daise of St. Joseph, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday, September 15 and a service will take place Saturday at 1:30 p.m., both at Rupp Funeral Home. The interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Diana Kay Sherlock
1956-2017

Diana Kay Sherlock 61, of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday September 13, 2017 in a North Kansas City hospital. She was born February 12, 1956 in St. Joseph, Missouri daughter of Dorothy and Ervin Nolan. She attended Faucett High School. She married Steven Sherlock on March 26, 1976, in St. Joseph, MO. She was homemaker. Diana was a very compassionate and caring person. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed reading. She was a member of Faith United Baptist Church. Diana was preceded in death by her father, Ervin Nolan, mother, Dorothy Kerns and step father, Price Lawnick, son, Michael Sherlock, and daughter, Amy Sherlock. She is survived by her husband, Steven P. Sherlock, two daughters, Angie Sherlock and Katy Sherlock all of the home, son, Eric (Stacy) Biller of Agency, MO, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brother, James Nolan of Agency, MO, and 3 half brothers, James Nolan, Ervin Nolan Jr., and Daniel Nolan, all of St. Joseph, MO. and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be cremated under the care of the Rupp Funeral Home.

Dorothy L. Bowen
1950-2017

Highland, Kansas – Dorothy L. Bowen, 67, formerly of Wathena, Kansas passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017 at the Highland Healthcare & Rehabilitation.

Dorothy was born on May 10, 1950 in Newton, Iowa to Wayne D. & Anna Marie (Quiggley) Perkins.

She worked in the laundry department for nursing homes & was a caretaker. Dorothy loved & cherished her cat, Tinker Bell & Guinea pig, Rufus

Dorothy married John Bowen in 1979 in Jasper County, Iowa. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors: sisters, Waynetta Farrington of Nevada, Iowa;
Sharon Curran of Mitcheville, Iowa;
Half brother, Danny Perkins of Newton, Iowa;
Special Friends, Theresa & Larry Rohrer of Wathena, Kansas.

Visitation: 2:30 P.M. Sunday, September 17, 2017 with a Memorial service at 3:00 P.M.

Robert Whaley
1935-2017


Robert “Bob” Whaley, 82, formerly of Effingham, KS died Wednesday, Sept. 13th, 2017 at the Village Villa Nursing Home, Nortonville, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Monday, Sept. 18th, 2017 at St. Ann’s Church, Effingham with Fr. Benjamin Tremmel, OSB as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Ann’s Cemetery, Effingham. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm on Sunday, Sept. 17th at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison with visitation to follow until 8:30 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Ann’s Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Bob was born on January 30, 1935 in Denton Kansas the son of William and Mattie (Pease) Whaley. He served in the National Guard. Bob worked as a truck driver for Capital Truck Lines, ANR and then Graves Trucking retiring in 1990. He worked from 1990 to 1997 at the Atchison County Sanitation Landfill. Bob was a member of the St. Ann’s Church, Effingham, KS, the Knights of Columbus, and Teamster Union # 460. He enjoyed horse riding, team penning, fishing, going on trail rides, KU Basketball games, and traveling. He especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren.

He was married to Doris Marie Zeit on Feb. 9, 1956 at St. Louis Church, Good Intent, KS. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2010. Survivors include a son, Mike (Jennifer) Whaley, Effingham, KS a daughter, Brenda (Dennis) Wenzl, Effingham, KS, a brother, Bill (Shirley) Whaley, Columbia, MO, two half sisters, Wilma Mae Lloyd, Camden,NJ, and Jeanie (Tony) Sinkewjz, Salem, New Hampshire, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one great granddaughter on the way and several nieces and nephews. His parents, wife – Doris, sister Mildred VanHoutan, and one grandson, Brad Wenzl preceded him in death.

Lorri Jean Hamm
1961-2017


Lorri Jean Hamm 56, Faucett, Missouri went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, after a long and courageous battle of Adrenal and pituitary failure. Her husband of 35 years was there when she departed this life and to begin her new life with her heavenly father. Lorri was born on June 2, 1961 in St. Joseph, to the late Roger and Beverly Ripper, she graduated from Benton High School class of 1979, then on July 24, 1982 she married her best friend and soul mate Scott Hamm in St. Joseph, they were together since she was 14 and spent 35 blissful years of marriage raising two children, Nichole Coons and husband Matthew of Dearborn, and Krista Hamm of St. Joseph, MO. Lorri was also blessed with three loving grandchildren, who were the shining light of her life; Braylan Marti, Landyn and Avery Coons, additional survivors include sisters, Vicki (Tim) Russell, St. Joseph, MO, and Julee Hughes-Cooke, Crescent Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a grand daughter, Adalyn Coons. Lorri’s occupation in life was working 28 years with Heartland Health as an Access Representative, she was also a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and caregiver to all. She enjoyed fishing and camping, and was a member of and First Lutheran Church. The register book will be available at 9:00 am friday, or online. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Friday, with funeral services to be conducted at 3:00 pm, on Friday, September 15, 2017 at Rupp Funeral Home, David H. Mejia officiating. Inurnment at a later date at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
