(UPDATE) – A St. Joseph man was taken into custody after an hours long standoff Thursday afternoon.
According to the St. Joseph Police Department, the incident started as a domestic disturbance call at 12:41 p.m. at the U.S. Oil gas station at 22nd and Messanie Streets. Capt. Jeff Wilson said an altercation between a man and his girlfriend was reported. The man allegedly held a handgun in a threatening manner and then fled the area. Police were on scene at Oak Ridge Apartments until the 31-year-old man surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody shortly before 5 p.m.

Capt. Jeff Wilson said the incident started as a domestic disturbance call at the U.S. Oil gas station at 22nd and Messanie Streets. Wilson said an altercation between a man and his girlfriend was reported. The man allegedly held a hand gun in a threatening manner and the fled the area. Wilson said police believe the man is inside an apartment at Oak Ridge. As of 3:30 p.m. police were on scene trying to get him to come out.
Wilson said no roads in the area are closed off. However, authorities do have one section of the complex located at 1205 Angelique closed down.
