The St. Joseph Salvation Army is behind on donations for its Red Kettle drive this year.
According to Major Abe Tamayo with the Salvation Army, they have raised approximately $45,428 so far this year, compared to $185,785 at the same time last year.
Tamayo said the goal is to raise $350,000.
“We need every cent of that money to do what we do,” Tamayo said. “We provide the Booth Center for Homeless People where we feed them three meals a day and a snack, provide for them while they’re there, help them finds jobs and get their lives back together and get them back on their feet and back out into the community. We need financial means to continue doing what we’ve done for the last 132 years right here in St. Joseph.”
The Annual Christmas Red Kettle Campaign is the single largest fund drive for the Salvation Army. Funds are raised in the kettles, through the mail or online giving.
