Snow expected over the weekend

Wintry weather will return to the area this weekend, coming in several rounds. Late this afternoon through the overnight, light snow will develop across northern MO and northeastern KS. A dusting to 1” is possible with this round. South of the river, freezing drizzle is expected to develop overnight. During the day Saturday, precipitation will decrease in coverage and intensity. Spotty freezing drizzle is possible south of I-70 with light snow or flurries elsewhere. Little or no accumulation is expected during the day Saturday. Then the main round of snowfall comes Saturday night. 1-2” of snow is possible north of I-70 with an inch or less south of the river. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: Cloudy, with a high near 25. North northeast wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Tonight: A chance of snow after 9 p.m. Cloudy, with a low around 12. Wind chill values between zero and 9. North wind 11 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 19. Wind chill values between -1 and 7. North wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Saturday Night: Snow. Low around 9. North wind 6 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Sunday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 28. North northwest wind around 6 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 5.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 35.

Monday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 38.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 19.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 46.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 45.
