Northwest women’s basketball signs five student-athletes

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State University head women’s basketball coach Austin Meyer has announced five additions, Kendey Eaton, Erika Schlosser, Kira Mosley, Caitlyn Jordon and Sidney Brastad to the 2018-19 Bearcat roster.

“We are very excited with the pieces we have added in such a short time. First and foremost, this is a group that consists of high character individuals and a group that has held themselves to very high standards academically,” said Meyer. “Multiple athletes in this class won HS State Championships and each has been part of successful teams.”

Eaton, a 5’6″ Guard, spent the past 2 season at North Central Missouri College after leading Mound City HS to its first ever State Championship in 2016. At NCMC, she averaged 18 ppg, 4.5 rpg, & 3.4 apg over the last 2 seasons including a 40%+ clip from behind the arc. Eaton led her team to a Region Championship last season and was selected 1st Team All-Region both years in Trenton. She finished as a 2-Time Academic All-American and currently ranks 2nd all time in career points at NCMC. Eaton finished with a 2 year record of 44-20 playing for Coach Jenni Croy.

Schlosser, a 5’9″ Guard, spent the last 2 seasons at Division 1 Fairfield University. Last season she appeared in 25 games making 2 starts. At Fairfield, she was named to the MAAC All Academic Team last season. Prior to Fairfield, Schlosser was a standout at Eastview HS in Minnesota under Coach Molly Kasper. Her 4 year record at Eastview was 117-11 overall. This included a state championship in 2013-2014 and a state runner up in 2014-2015. Schlosser was a 2 year captain and earned All-Conference 3 of her 4 years. She earned Academic All State & was a MNGBB 4A All Star her senior season. She finished her career as the school’s all time leader in assists (317) and tied for the single season 3 point percentage record at 53.3%.

“Kendey and Erika both handle the ball well, shoot it at a high level and are good distributers. Kendey’s point guard experience on a championship junior college team will be a plus. We really liked Erika’s toughness and ability to defend as well. Each of them have a strong desire to get better and they want to be in the gym. Both have 2 years of college experience and will have an immediate impact on our team.”

Mosley, a 6’2″ Guard/Forward, helped Hopkins HS (MN) to a Class 4A State Runner up & a 31-4 overall record her senior season under Coach Brian Cosgriff. She averaged nearly 8 points and 4 rebounds per game in limited minutes following an injury after her Junior season. During a full 2016-2017 season she averaged 15 ppg, 5 rpg, & 2 apg. Mosley was named to the All Conference Team as a junior. She also made the Academic Honor Roll & was a member of the Diversity Club.

Jordon, a 5’10” Forward, was a 2x All District & 2x All Conference selection at Neosho HS under Coach Grant Berendt. She was also a 3x SWMO Basketball Magazing Future 50, was a member of the KURM Dream Team and competed in the SWMO All Star Game. Jordon average 8.7 ppg, 5.6 rpg, & 2 apg while shooting 52% from the field her senior season. She was Team Captain for 3 seasons, a member of the Academic All-State Team, a 4x Superintendent’s Honor Roll selection and National Honors Society.

Brastad, a 6’0 Guard/Forward, was an All-Conference member and voted MVP of her team last season at Chanhassen HS in Minnesota playing for Coach Angie Kissock. She finished her career with 226 free throw made which was 2nd all time in school history. She also finished 3rd on the all time rebounds list with 375. Brastad also lettered in softball & was all conference HM and captain of the Volleyball team. She was a member of the Deans list and an academic all conference selection as well.

“Our freshman class provides us with some needed length & versatility. All 3 can put the ball on the floor and can stretch defense with their ability to shoot the 3. They have the ability to score in the post and each of them rebound the ball well.”
The Bearcats open the 2018-2019 season on November 9th in Wayne, Neb.
