Bearcats get run-ruled by Emporia State in MIAA Tourney opener

The Northwest Missouri State University baseball team fell to Emporia State, 15-2, on Thursday in Warrensburg, Mo. in the first round of the MIAA tournament.

The Bearcats fall to 30-21 overall while the Hornets improve to 29-20 overall.

Key Northwest Statistics
– Northwest scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Emporia State scored two in the first, 11 in the second and one in the fourth and seventh innings.
– The Bearcats had two runs on five hits and two errors. The Hornets had 15 runs on 16 hits with no errors.
– Hudson Bilodeau finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a double.
– Kevin Handzlik went 1-for-3 and a double.
– Aaron Barratt was 1-for-3.
– Derek Hussey went 1-for-3 and scored a run.
– Logan Rycraft finished 1-for-3 with an RBI.
– Jake Lewis drew a walk and scored a run.

Key Northwest Innings
– In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lewis drew a one out walk and advanced to third on a single to right center by Hussey. Rycraft lifted a fly ball to left field to score Lewis and moved Hussey to second. Bilodeau doubled down the right field line to bring in Hussey and conclude the scoring for the Bearcats.
