PHELPS COUNTY— One person died in an accident just after 8a.m. Saturday in Phelps County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 1999 GMC Sierra driven by Tristen B. Russ, 16, St. James, was southbound on Missouri 68 two miles south of the Missouri 8 Junction.

The pickup traveled off the left side of the road. It began to skid, hit a fence, a tree, overturned and caught fire.

Russ was pronounced dead at the scene. The MSHP had no confirmation of seat belt usage.
