The St. Joseph Mustangs were back in action Wednesday night after two days off and St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team lost a non-league game to North Kansas City 7-5 inside Phil Welch Stadium.
The Mustangs fall to 14-5.
North Kansas City scored three runs in the first inning before St. Joseph scored five unanswered runs. They got a run in the first, three in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth inning. The Giants then rallied with three runs of their own in the sixth and they tacked another run on in the seventh inning.
The Mustangs loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning but Derek Hussey flew out to left field for the final out of the game.
St. Joe starter Alec Byous suffered the loss as he allowed six runs on six hits in 5+ innings of work.
The Mustangs managed only four hits on Wednesday. Jordan Maxson hit a home run, while Hussey, Terrance Spurlin and Karl Koerper added one single each.
St. Joseph gets back into MINK League play Thursday as they host Nevada at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
