Mustangs lose at home to Nevada Thursday 7-3

The St. Joseph Mustangs lost their second straight game Thursday as they fell at home to the Nevada Griffons 7-3.

St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team drops to 14-6 this season and 12-4 in the MINK League.

Nevada used a five-run first inning to take a quick lead on the Mustangs and they weren’t able to rally Thursday. St. Joseph committed three errors in that opening frame as four of the runs were unearned. The Mustangs did score single runs in the second, sixth and eighth innings to close the game to 5-3, but the Griffons capped off the win with two runs in the ninth.

Mahlyk Davis suffered the loss for St. Joe as he allowed just the one earned run and seven hits in seven innings of work.

The three runs scored by the Mustangs were all solo home runs from Jordan Maxson, Karl Koerper and Drew Beazley.

St. Joseph is back at home Friday as they host the Omaha Strike Zone in a non-league game at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
