The MINK League All-Star game took place at Phil Welch Stadium Wednesday night and the North team defeated the South All-Stars 3-2. It’s the second straight win for the North in the series.
The South scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings and led 2-0 until the eighth when the North scored three unearned runs to take their first lead of the game.
The St. Joseph Mustangs’ Austin Brooks came on in the ninth inning to get the final three outs and earn the save. Sedalia’s Jackson Schmedding, who has signed to play at Missouri Western, got the final two outs of the eighth to ge the win.
St. Joe’s collegiate summer baseball team had nine players in the game and they were a big part of the North’s win.
The North had six hits on Wednesday and three came from Mustangs. Jackson Dierenfeldt had one hit and got on base twice, Jordan Maxson added a single and Jack Wagner had a single in his only at bat and scored a run in the eighth inning.
On the mound, St. Joe’s Cam Bednar, Mack Stephenson, Jake Purl and Austin Brooks each threw a scoreless inning and didn’t allow a hit.
The Mustangs, who have been off since Friday, are back in action Thursday as they play a non-league game against Springfield at 7:00 p.m. inside Phil Welch Stadium.
