Missouri Rape Suspect Awaits Extradition From Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) – A 28-year-old Iowa man suspected of a 2009 rape in Missouri has been arrested at his home in Cedar Rapids.

Charlie West was taken into custody on Wednesday. A Linn County jailer said Friday that West was still in the jail, awaiting his return to Springfield, Mo.

Missouri court records say West is charged with forcible rape, sodomy and kidnapping.

He’s accused of attacking a woman who was walking near Missouri State University campus in Springfield on June 15, 2009.

The records say that in an interview with an investigator, West acknowledged living in Springfield in June 2009 but denied raping the woman.
