ST. LOUIS (AP) – A St. Louis man has been sentenced to life in prison for stealing a woman’s car at gunpoint, then shooting and wounding two police officers.
A federal judge handed down the sentence Monday for 46-year-old Harold Ford.
Ford pleaded guilty in November to carjacking and weapons charges.
The crime happened in 2009.
A woman was putting gas in her car at a service station when Ford ordered her to get into the car. He eventually forced her out and stole the vehicle.
About two weeks later, police saw Ford run a red light in the carjacked vehicle and began a chase. Ford crashed the car, got out and fired several shots into the patrol car. One officer was struck in the hand. The other officer lost hearing.
