LAKE OZARK, Mo. (AP) — The annual spring cleanup on the Lake of the Ozarks shoreline is over, and the sponsoring company says this year’s effort was a record-setter in many ways.
Ameren Missouri says a record 74 groups of Adopt-the-Shoreline volunteers took part in the three-month cleanup that began in March.
The volunteers cleaned a record 575 miles of shoreline and removed 48 tons of trash and debris.
Ameren, then known as Union Electric Co., created the vast lake in 1931 when it completed the 2,500-foot Bagnell Dam impounding the Osage River. The project powers the Osage hydroelectric plant.
Ameren Missouri’s Bryan Vance coordinates the cleanup and says that several organizations and individuals donated boats and other equipment for this year’s event.
