Teen Sentenced For Texting-While-Driving Fatality Accident

A teenager from Kansas City will serve two days in jail and 72 days house arrest for texting while driving just before a head-on collision that killed a 72-year-old woman last fall.

Rachel Gannon is just 16 years old, but pleaded guilty to adult charges of involuntary manslaughter, assault, and texting while driving.

Platte County Judge Abe Shafer also ordered Gannon to serve five years probation, and pay a $200 fine. Judge Shafer also denied Gannon’s eligibility to get a driver’s license until she graduates from high school.

Last September, Gannon admitted using her smart-phone to send a text message while driving on Northwest Skyview Avenue. Her car hit another vehicle head on, killing 72-year-old Loretta Larimer.
