Mustangs down Ozark Thursday for fourth straight win

The St. Joseph Mustangs equaled their longest winning streak of the season Thursday night as they won their fourth straight game by defeating Ozark, 5-3, at Phil Welch Stadium.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 12-6 this season and 8-6 in the MINK League.

St. Joseph fell behind 2-0 after the top of the first inning, but answered right back as they scored one run in the first, two in the second inning and one run in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.

The Mustangs led 5-3 in the eighth inning when Ozark loaded the bases with two outs, but Carson Smith came out of the bullpen and got the final out.  Phillip Wilson earned his fourth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

St. Joseph starter Cody Cunningham improves to 4-0 as he went 7.2 innings and allowed 10 hits and three runs.  He struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter.

Maxime LeFevre had two hits, scored two runs and had one RBI, while Mark Robinette added two hits and drove in one run.

Kyle Simpson and Kyle Richards also had one RBI for the Mustangs.

St. Joe is back at home against Ozark Friday night as they play at doubleheader beginning at 6:00 p.m.
