Amtrak’s Missouri Ridership Up 74%

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missouri transportation officials say ridership on Amtrak passenger trains in the state has grown by 74 percent over five years.

The state transportation department says more than 192,000 passengers rode Amtrak in Missouri during the fiscal year that ended June 30.

Officials attributed some of the record ridership to higher gas prices. They also note that the increase in the latest fiscal year came despite flooding in July 2011.

The floods forced Amtrak to suspend some trips.

Amtrak trains make two round trips daily between Kansas City and St. Louis.
