Leavenworth Fire Chief Demoted After Motorcycle Crash

The fire chief in Leavenworth, Kansas has been demoted in the aftermath of a motorcycle accident two months ago.

Former Fire Chief Mark Demaranville was seriously injured in the crash September 5, but appears to have recovered, is walking around, and returned to work last month.  But he’s been demoted.

“Chief Demaranville has been demoted to the Fire Health Inspector/Safety Officer, as of November 1,” said Public Information Officer Melissa Bower.

She would not say why.

“It’s an ongoing personnel issue and the city doesn’t comment on personnel issues,” Bower said.

As we reported, Mr. Demaranville was the sole occupant of a motorcycle that crashed along US 73 highway near County Road 18 in Leavenworth County on September 5. St Joseph Post has learned that he tested “barely over” the legal limit for driving while intoxicated.

As of Tuesday morning, no criminal charges had been filed in Leavenworth County against Mr Demaranville.
