NW Missouri Electric Coops Sell Propane Business To MFA

Two regional electric cooperatives, including Platte-Clay Electric of Kearney, have sold their propane business to MFA Oil Co. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, according to a report in The Kansas City Star.

In a statement, MFA Vice President James Greer said they look forward to serving the rural customers of the company Propane Pardners.

“We understand the needs of rural customers, and MFA Oil will be there for them,” Greer said. “And we are excited about an increased presence in the north Kansas City metropolitan area.”

MFA is a farmers cooperative based in Columbia and among the top 10 suppliers of propane in the country. The company also owns a minority interest in the NCRA refinery in McPherson, Kansas, one of three oil refineries in the state. MFA is in the process of selling its stake in NCRA to the majority owner.

Propane Pardners was owned by Platte-Clay Electric, which is based in Kearney, and United Electric Cooperative, which has offices in Maryville and Savannah, Mo. It served 2,100 customers in 12 counties in Missouri and three counties in Iowa.
