An unspecified threat against fellow students at Savannah High School has landed a 17-year-old male student in the Andrew County jail. Savannah Police Chief David Vincent tells us the student threatened violence against other students. Vincent would not go into detail about the nature of the threat, saying the investigation continues.
“We receive a report that there had possibly been a threat made by a student at the Savannah High School of violence towards other students,” Vincent said.
“After interviewing the administration and a couple of witnesses, we did take a 17-year-old male into custody.”
Vincent says the young man is in jail on a 24-hour investigative hold. He expects to confer with the prosecuting attorney about possible criminal charges.
In the wake of the tragedy last week in Connecticut, Vincent says they’ve tried to increase their presence at the schools anyway.
“Definitely for the rest of the week we’ll try to have a presence at the school, and try to reassure parents that their students are safe, and we’re there in case something arises.”
