Griffons Join Entertainment Lineup At Inauguration Barbecue

Governor Jay Nixon and four other statewide officer-holders take the oath of office Monday. Nixon is to take the oath of office at noon Monday for his second term as governor.

The other winners of last November’s elections also are to be sworn in Monday as lieutenant governor, secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general.

It will be a full day of events. And it’s forecast to be cold.

A parade features 10 marching bands, mascots for Missouri’s major sports teams and entrants from various military, fire, and police units.

After the outdoor inauguration, Nixon plans to warm up guests with a reception at the Governor’s Mansion and free barbecue at a nearby hotel. Later that night, the Capitol will host an inaugural ball.

Two Missouri Western music majors will be on the entertainment bill at the “Best of Missouri” Barbecue Showcase and Reception at the capitol Plaza Hotel. The reception, which is open to the public, runs from 1:30 to 5 p.m.

Adrienne Collins of St Joseph and Donovan Jones of Tarkio will be singing from “West Side Story,” “Hello Dolly” and “My Fair Lady” among other selections. Collins and Jones are scheduled to perform at 2 p.m.
