Dennis Merritt on Tuesday was named the new Director of Hillyard Technical Center. Mr. Merritt, who has served as the Assistant Director for the past eight years, will replace Regina Briggs effective July 1.
“Mr. Merritt’s experience as the Assistant Director makes him uniquely qualified to be the leader of Hillyard Technical Center,” said Dr. Melody Smith, Superintendent.
“The community’s business leaders are going to enjoy working with Dennis.”
Dr. Smith pointed out that Hillyard Technical Center is one of the community’s key players in workforce development. HTC provides educational opportunities to high school students and adults in a variety of career-focused programs. HTC serves six counties. In addition, Hillyard provides customized training for business and industry.
Mr. Merritt’s experience also includes eight years as an instructor at HTC, and 20 years at Mead Products.
“I am appreciative of the opportunity to help shape the community and area’s workforce, and I especially am appreciative of the opportunity I have had to work with Mrs. Briggs over the years,” said Mr. Merritt.
Mr. Merritt is completing his doctorate in education through St. Louis University. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Central Missouri, a specialist’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University, a bachelor’s degree from Mid America Nazarene University and an associate’s degree from Missouri Western State University.
