A former St Joseph resident serving a prison sentence for statutory rape now faces an additional 120 counts of statutory rape and statutory sodomy for an alleged series of sex acts with his niece.
Prosecutors in Livingston County filed the charges February 1 against Daniel J. Meyers, 33. Meyers is currently serving a four year prison term at the Farmington Correctional Center for his guilty plea to statutory rape charges out of Caldwell County.
Investigators say the girl was about six years old when the string of offenses began.
Officials say the sexual assaults continued until the girl was eleven years old.
The case came to the attention of law enforcement only recently. The victim is now 15 years old.
Chillicothe Police Captain Tony Kirkendoll says the crimes took place at homes belonging to the girl’s grandparents. The charges concern crimes that took place from January 2003 to December 2007.
Captain Kirkendoll says Meyers spent a lot of time with the grandparents, but did not believe they were his parents.
