The 2013 Apple Blossom Parade and festival will celebrate music, with the theme “Music in Motion.”
“This parade theme this year celebrating music, in all of its wonderful forms and all of its entertaining expressions,” Executive Director Michelle Wolfe said. Entrants are encouraged to reflect this theme in their entries.
“We would love to see floats that celebrate music in all different styles from the past, present and future. It would be fun to see a float of the Partridge Family bus from the ’70s or a float presenting a ’50s sock hop. The more creative the better.”
Organizers hope the 2013 theme will increase the number of floats in the parade. “We’ve seen some great floats in recent years,” association President Ken Rosenauer said, “but we never have too many, and none are ever too good. This is the year we really want to see the number of well-done, creative floats rise.”
The grand prize for the float that best represents the parade theme will be $300, with second place receiving $150 and third place $75.
“We are going to be strict in our judging,” Wolfe said. “If your entry doesn’t match the theme, then you are ineligible for the cash prize.” In addition, non-cash recognition certificates for units will be given best band and best vintage vehicle.
Parade entry forms are now available by calling 816-261-0422 or by going online to the updated Apple Blossom website (here). All phone messages will be answered as quickly as possible.
Entry forms, including fees, must be submitted by mail. The regular parade entry deadline is April 15. After that, the entry fee increases.
The Air Show will be held on Apple Blossom weekend again this year.
