Livingston County Sheriff Warns of Phone Scam

Livingston County Sheriff's Office PatchA voice-mail left for a Livingston County resident has prompted a scam alert.

The caller ID showed the call coming from the Livingston County Sheriff’s office, however Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox announced Tuesday that’s not the case.

The caller had what was described as a Middle Eastern accent and claimed to be Sheriff Cox. The caller told the resident he had an outstanding arrest warrant.

The call did not come from the Sheriffs office and the resident did not have an arrest warrant.

The Sheriff warns of programs that manipulate caller-ID to show any phone number. Sheriff cox says the caller was likely trying to get the individual to send or wire money to take care of the warrant.
