A man involved in a shootout with Springfield police is dead after wounding a detective and engaging in a second gun battle with officers.

The man fired at a detective who was serving a search warrant early Friday.

The officer was grazed by a bullet and returned fire, striking the suspect.

Police Lieutenant Ben King says the suspect later emerged from the house and exchanged gunfire again with police. Witnesses say that second exchange happened around 8:30 a.m. Friday, and authorities confirmed the man’s death three hours later.
