Some big changes are in the works in the workplace at the Snorkel aerial lift factory in Elwood, Kansas.

Officials say workers at Snorkel have voted to remove their representation with their trade union, The International Association of Machinists (IAM).

The IAM gained representation of the Elwood plant in the summer of 2008. Company officials say that since the time of the initial certification, the company has been steadily climbing out of the global economic recession.

Out of 90 eligible employees at the Elwood facility, 72 voted to decertify.

David Smith, President of Snorkel North America, said: “Our employees petitioned for a vote on decertification and voted overwhelmingly in favor of it. This is such a rare occurrence because it only happens when employees completely trust their management team and recognize that the management team has their best interests at heart.”

Tammy Karr, Director of Human Resources, said: “Snorkel prides itself on open, honest dialogue with its work force. All of our employees know they are part of a family and can speak freely with us on any issues.”

Company officials say there are 148 people employed at Snorkel in Elwood, including team leaders and management.
