The Northwest Missouri State men’s tennis team won in convincing fashion to run its winning streak to five with a 9-0 victory over Missouri Valley College Monday afternoon.
The No. 25 Bearcats battled windy conditions at Frank Grube Courts improving to 6-1 on the season. The match comes as a final tune-up before Northwest embarks on a spring break trip through Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas starting on Friday.
Lluis Altimires and Sergio De Vilchez started the Bearcats off with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles after Dylan Bernatzky and Jason Harris claimed an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Harris continued his impressive singles play with a, 6-2, 6-1 win over Jason Hadley. Harris improved to 7-0 on the year and is 8-2 including action during the fall season.
Altimires and De Vilchez also imposed their will at No. 3 and No. 1 singles. Altimires cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory as the 38th-ranked De Vilchez won at the No. 1 position 6-1, 6-1.
Impending cooler weather has slightly altered the upcoming Bearcat men’s tennis schedule moving Thursday’s match against Southern Indiana to the indoor complex at Red Oak, Iowa. Thursday’s match starts a streak of six matches in six days for the Bearcats.
