Dr. Charles “Chuck” Coyne, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2013, at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Chuck was born December 23, 1928, in Lake City, Iowa, to Gene and Ruth (Garnatz) Coyne.
He married Mary Krekel on September 9, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa. She survives of the home.
Chuck served in the United States Army in occupation forces in Japan.
After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Chuck taught in several towns in Iowa. During that time he earned a Master’s Degree from Truman State University. After teaching in Keokuk, Iowa, for 10 years, he moved to Denton, Texas, where he received his Doctorate of Education at North Texas State University. He then moved to Normal, Illinois, where he taught at Illinois State University. In 1968 he moved to St. Joseph where he was Dean of Applied Sciences at Missouri Western State University until he retired in 1992. After retiring, from 1993-1994, he taught English in Ventspils, Latvia.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Sunrise Optimist Club, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Missouri Unit Association of Teacher Education, National Education Association, Missouri Vocational Association, Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Missouri Association of College Teacher Education, American Council of College Teacher Education, Association of Teacher Education, and Teacher Education of Colleges and Universities.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John and Gordon; and granddaughter, Kara Jackson.
Survivors: son, Kevin Coyne (Denise), Webster Groves, Missouri; daughters, Marlee Coyne, Overland Park, Kansas, Joan Adams (David), Lenexa, Kansas, and Jenny Jackson (Rob), Wildwood, Missouri; grandchildren, Katy, Patrick, and Erin Coyne; Sarah, Rachel, Samuel, and Hannah Adams; Jakob, Jarod, Joshua, and Riley Jackson; brother-in-law, Raymond Krekel (Christine), Pleasanton, California; sisters-in-law, Helen Krogmeier (Bob) and Mary Ann Krekel, Burlington, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M. Monday, St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Parish Rosary 6:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Khloe Sue Bassett, infant, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Children’s Mercy Hospital.
She was born March 26, 2013 to Daniel and Bethanie (Grinstead) Bassett.
She was preceded in death by her aunt, Mindy Bassett; grandfather, Larry Grinstead; several great-grandparents and other family members.
Survivors: parents; brother, Dylan Brian Bassett; grandparents, Danny and Amy Bassett and Belinda and Mike Kneib; aunt, Rebecca Bassett; and uncles, Callan and Bryson Kneib.

Galen West, 67, Maryville Missouri, formerly of Clearmont, Missouri died on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at St Francis Hospital, Maryville.

Galen was born December 10, 1945 in Maryville, Missouri, son of the late Galen Hubert West and Ella Jane (Wilson) West.

He was a 1964 graduate of West Nodaway High School and was a farmer. Galen loved animals, swap meets and trips to the Barn Door Opry.

Preceding him in death were his parents.

Survivors include his brother James Adrian (Diane) West, Florence, CO, half brother Lowell Dean West, Maryville, an aunt Eileen Chitwood, New Franklin, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held 9:30-10:30 prior to the funeral service at 10:30 Monday, April 8, 2013 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Clearmont, Missouri.
