Bearcats lose series finale at Emporia State

riggertNorthwestOne day after splitting a double-header with Emporia State, the Northwest Missouri State baseball team was unable to win the rubber match Sunday losing 10-6.

Emporia State went up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Northwest answered in the top half of the second inning with two runs. Charlie Krueger singled in Eric McGlauflin to tie it up before Steven Garber knocked in Krueger to go up 2-1.

The Hornets went back on top plating two runs in the third inning. The Bearcats were able to get one run across in the fourth when Garber scored from third on a wild pitch to knot the game up at 3-3.

ESU had an offensive explosion in the fourth inning as they scored five runs on six hits to take an 8-3 lead.

The Hornets scored one run in the sixth inning to add to their lead. Northwest got a run back in the seventh when Tyler Durant hit a solo home run to left field making the score 9-4.

With a 9-4 lead in the eighth inning Emporia State added another insurance run before the Bearcats offense tried scratching their way back into the ball game. Krueger and Garber both added RBIs but fell short of completing the comeback losing 10-6.

Chase Anderson got the start for Northwest and was tagged with the loss moving his record to 4-5 on the season.

The Bearcats are now 14-24 this season and 11-21 in conference play. Head Coach Darin Loe’s team will be back on the road this week to take on Nebraska-Kearney Wednesday for a double-header with first pitched scheduled for 4 p.m. with game two set to follow.
