Organizers of the Apple Blossom Festival’s Great American Barbecue Tour say a little weather will not dampen their dedication or enthusiasm.

Jim Grechus and a gaggle of volunteers were out in Thursday morning’s wintery mix at Civic Center Park, setting up tents, tables, chairs and heaters.

The weekend will feature family activities along with cooking demonstrations, products and free samples.

Sponsors include Big Green Eggs, Castlewood Reserve, Reser’s Fine Foods, BBQ Guru, Smithfield Foods, and Sam’s Club.

This year’s event marks the first within a new long-term partnership with the Northwest Missouri Children’s Advocacy Center. Net proceeds from the Barbecue contest will go to the center to help fight child abuse.
